Aim:Determining the screening value of the serum levels of IL-1β in aneurysmal SAH and its association to the severity of initial bleeding.Material and Methods:It was a case-control study which was conducted in Namazi Hospital affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. The study population was included into the patients who referred to the abovementioned hospital in Shiraz with a diagnosis of subarachnoid hemorrhage which had a history of less than 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. The case group was the patients with cerebral aneurysms divided into two groups of raptured and un-raptured brain aneurysms. Our aim was to determine the relationship of IL-1β serum levels with the brain aneurysm. The number of samples in each group was 43 and in total 86 people. 48 hours before the onset of symptoms, and before the surgery, a blood sample was taken to measure the anti- IL-1β antibody in less than 3 hours, the serum was isolated and placed in a -80 °C freezer.Results:Fisher\'s average grading was 0 in the patients with unruptured aneurysm, while the most of ruptured aneurysm was 3. MCA with 10 cases (23%) was the most site of aneurysms followed by A.COM with 9 cases (20%). There was significant correlation between ruptured aneurysm and the GCS scores (p = 0.01), and also with the fisher classification (P = 0.04). There was no significant difference among the serum levels of IL-1β in patients with ruptured and un-ruptured aneurysms. There was a significant difference among the serum levels of IL-1β in our patients with control group. (P = 0.04)Conclusion:The knowledge of the association between the inflammatory cascades and aneurysm formation may have significant clinical consequences and will be the goal of future treatments. Our outcome indicates a significant correlation between IL-1β levels and outcome following aneurysmal SAH, dependent of initial hemorrhage.
