Giant Multiple Cerebral Hydatid Cysts Causing Herniation: A Case Report

Hydatid cyst disease is a zoonotic infection caused by the parasite Echinococcus granulosus that typically affects the liver and lungs, whereas cerebral involvement is uncommon. This case report describes multiple cerebral hydatid cysts (approximately 180–250 in number) identified during the evaluation of a 13-year-old male patient who presented to the our emergency department with altered consciousness. The patient underwent urgent surgical treatment and the cyst was excised. This rare clinical presentation is discussed in the context of the existing literature. Although cerebral hydatid cysts are encountered in neurosurgical practice, cases of giant multiple hydatid cysts leading to herniation are exceedingly rare.
